March 27th, a day at the Swimming pool....

By: Gashan Omar,

A day at the Swimming pool could not have been more exiting than going to Sana'a's Officers club. It had one of the largest swimming pools I have ever seen but in order for us to really enjoy our day we had to be ready and meet at 10 am in the morning so that after have swam all day we could get ourselves tanned by 12 noon.

We all got together at the entrance and as soon as we walked in, we saw nice buildings and suddenly in front of us appeared a large, open swimming pool. First thing I did was go to the gym and work out before going to the pool. After finished with the gym I approached the pool, which was as blue as the sky, and with lack of caution I jumped into the pool. Like everyone else in the world I should have been curious about how cool it might be but being in Yemen I instinctively thought it was warm, little did I know that this swimming pool is specially kept cool for healthy reasons and that the locals preferred it kept cold! Brrrrr

After having dived in the Freezing pool I had no choice but to carry on swimming with everyone else but no sooner were we out and lying back on those beach type chairs and with Sun radiating all its heat. It was more than we asked for and a while later we went to the steam room then in the sauna but nothing was better than the Jacuzzi.

Later on that evening we were invited to Abduljaleel's house and if you have been to Yemen, you should know of their great hospitality. We all sat down and were served rice, chicken, lamb, salta, basboosa, Shafoot, Bint Alssahn, all kinds of food, my favorite was the pudding. It was the best day I had in Yemen and would love to do it again when the opportunity comes.
