Students from some countries can
get entry visas valid for three months (for example Britain and EU
countries), and others for only one month (for example USA and
Australia), from the Yemeni
embassies based in their countries or from Sana'a airport authorities,
depending on the bilateral agreements already in place.
Students that
desire to study longer than the one or three month period will need to have a
student visa. A tourist visa cannot be transferred to a student visa
after arrival, although a tourist visa can be used for study in Yemen
for the period specified on it. If a student arrives with a
tourist visa they would need to exit and reenter the country to extend
their stay.
Students holding a student visa, who want to extend their stay for
amonth will need to get their visas renewed by paying a US$20 renewal
fee, bringing 4 (4cm x 6 cm) photos with a white background, and a copy
of a recent blood
test.
Those wanting to renew their residence visas for more than three months
must obtain the approval of their country embassies in Sana'a.
Authorities will impose fines on students not renewing their residence
visas on time. Under Yemeni law, foreign students can not start
businesses of their own.
Students wanting to stay longer than three months should email us to get more information
before their arrival, and to obtain a letter of acceptance. Please
be aware that a letter of acceptance is required to obtain a student
visa. Once they join YIAL, students should check the
status of their visas with the office manager.
Visa Fees include:
- Extension fees for a month = US$20 (applies only to student visas)
- Blood test fees = US$30
- Exit visa = US$8
- Re-entry visa = US$20
- Extension visa for a year = US$60 (applies only to student visas)
